How to Calculate Average Percentage?

Calculating an average percentage is different from finding a regular average because percentages often represent different totals. Here’s how to do it correctly:

Average Percentage Finder Formula

Method 1: Weighted Average (Recommended for Different Totals)

If your percentages come from different sample sizes (e.g., test scores from different total marks), use this formula:

Average Percentage=(Sum of (Each Percentage × Its Base Value)Total of Base Values)×100Average Percentage=(Total of Base ValuesSum of (Each Percentage × Its Base Value))×100

Example:

Test 1: 80% (out of 50 marks) → 80×50=400080×50=4000

Test 2: 90% (out of 100 marks) → 90×100=900090×100=9000

Total Base Values = 50 + 100 = 150

Sum of Weighted % = 4000 + 9000 = 13,000

Average % = (13,000 / 150) = 86.67%

Method 2: Simple Average (Only for Same Base Values)

If all percentages are from the same total (e.g., survey results), just average them:

Average Percentage=%1+%2+%3+...nAverage Percentage=n%1+%2+%3+...

Example:

Scores: 70%, 80%, 90%

Average % = (70 + 80 + 90) / 3 = 80%
